Civil Service Employees (CSE) is seeking a Claims Adjuster.
Description:
Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle all assigned bodily injury, property damage, and homeowners claims by telephone, personal contact or correspondence. Receive new claim assignments from the Regional Claims Manager or transferred claims from the Telephone Adjusters. Verify insured's coverage and maintain working files. Contact claimants to explain claims procedures within 24 hours of assignment. Face-to-face contact is required on all bodily injury claims and large property losses. Conduct field investigations. Arrange auto appraisals on assigned cases. Assign inspection of homeowners losses, to include photographs, evaluate the area of damage, review contract bids, write scope of repair estimates on structural losses, and negotiate agreement with insureds and contractors on scope of repairs. Obtain and evaluate police reports, medical reports, wage loss statements, fire reports, property damage or collision damage estimates. Complete in a timely manner all company and State required forms and reports in compliance with the Claims Plan and Claims Manual. Refer all cases in excess of Regional Office authority to Home Office Claims. Provide timely status reports and recommend reserves and strategy to Home Office Claims on referred files. Attend settlement conferences and trials and represent the company in small claims court when necessary. Direct and control contractors and vendors who are making property damage repairs, and negotiate settlement with insureds when the work is complete. Make periodic "control calls" on insureds to keep them informed and maintain control of the case. Negotiate and settle bodily injury cases with insureds or insured's attorney.
Requirements:
Three years adjuster experience, including bodily injury and property. Working knowledge of insurance contracts, Unfair Claims Settlement Practices, insurance codes and contracts, civil codes, vehicle codes, arbitration rules and regulations, tort law, Claims Plan, Claims Manual and corporate claims policies and procedures. Strong verbal and written communications skills required to investigate and analyze information. Able to function under a heavy volume of work and to make independent decisions regarding investigation, case evaluation and settlement negotiations. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with insureds, claimants, vendors, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other insurance companies. Excellent negotiation skills in order to negotiate agreements with insureds, claimants, vendors and attorneys. College degree required or its equivalent in work experience.
